May, 2008 Dear MWA'ers, The unofficial end of the 2007-2008 contest season has passed. However, there are still plenty of contests to operate. Several state QSO parties are taking place In April and May. If you have the chance, get on the air and hand out a few Q's. This is a nice way to repay those who come out to participate in the MN QSO Party while also help their event out. I see several have participated is some of the QSO Parties recently, just as I have. The end of May brings the CQ WPX CW contest. While it occurs on a holiday weekend during the short period of time we have nice weather, I do try to put in a few hours to hand out the AC0 prefix. It's a fun contest so also give this a try. Then the end of June we see Field Day. I know several groups are working on their Field Day plans. Seems no matter how early you start, you always run out of time. I have not made any definite plans for that weekend yet. Then later in the summer is the W0DXCC Convention in conjunction with Contest Central and the Dakota Division Convention. This is being held in Rochester. Several MWA members are presenters. Looks to be a great weekend for only $25. Check out the web site for more details www.rarexpo.org . There are still opportunities to help out so if asked give it a consideration. Finally, the contest chair for the ARRL DX CW contest is looking to start web regional write-ups, similar to the SSB contest. To start with they are hoping to get just regional coverage, such as the Midwest or Central US. Next year they hope to bring it down to the Division level like the SSB contest has. If you have an interest in trying your hand at being an author, let me know and I will put you in touch with the appropriate individuals. I find it fun to do the SSB write-up for the Dakota Division. You will be surprise how many people read these write-ups. People even take the time to write and thank you for the write-up. That is it for this month. For those starting antenna work remember, SAFETY FIRST, especially since May is Electrical Safety Month. 73, Bill, ACØW Interim MWA President |
